Meet the 2016 Student Alumni Ambassadors
Share |

Jose Jesurajan (left) and Ahmed Mohamed (right) are incoming students at the Morsani College of Medicine. They joined the USF Health Development and Alumni Relations team for the Summer 2016 Student Alumni Ambassador Program. As part of the program, they are asked to contact MCOM alumni in order to keep them up-to-date on what is happening at USF Health and coordinate shadowing opportunities. This educational opportunity allows them to gain experience in a variety of medical specialties and to build relationships with USF Health physicians.

Learn more about the program here.

Meet Jose Jesurajan:

Jose Jesurajan was originally born in Tamil Nadu, India, and subsequently moved to Singapore in order to complete his primary education. After completely the fifth grade in Singapore, his father got a job in the United States as a software consultant, and his family immigrated to Tampa, Florida.  He completed middle school and high school in Tampa, and enrolled in the University of South Florida’s 7-year BS/MD program.

Upon entering high school, Jose was inspired to pursue a career in the medical field after, “religiously watching Dr. V.S. Ramachandran’s talks on neurological phenomena, as well as by volunteering in community shelters,” where he learned more about the socio-economic inequalities in our country.

As he starts medical school, Jose hopes to help mitigate some of these noteworthy societal disparities, and contribute to the positive growth of our nation’s medical community.

 Meet Ahmed Mohamed:

“Ahmed Mohamed”, he says, is derived from the Arabic word for “thankful one”. Ahmed is truly grateful for the experiences he has had, including this position. “These opportunities have been especially valuable and memorable to me because of my unique goals and dreams in medicine - my passion is biomedical ethics and I am embarking upon an MD/JD dual-degree program at USF Morsani College of Medicine and Stetson University College of Law,” he says. “Through shadowing I learned a great deal about technology in medicine, inter-professionalism, patient-physician interaction, and even a little bit about hospital administration.”

Ahmed says these insights are necessary as he hopes to one day address issues in the healthcare system such as racial or socioeconomic disparities in access to care.

Outside of medicine, his interests include swimming and playing the piano. He has competed in triathlons in the past and maintains an updated music channel on YouTube. Last but certainly not least, he is extremely proud to be an Eagle Scout.
