An Evening with the Dean: West Palm Beach
Share |

On April 13, 2016 the USF Health Development and Alumni Relations Office sponsored the inaugural regional alumni reception, “An Evening with the Dean.” MD Alumni from the West Palm Beach area were invited to reconnect and network with fellow alumni and catch up on the new developments at the Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM).

We were grateful to have several alumni in the area host the evening - Daniel Kapp, MD ’98, Ivy Faske, MD ’84, James Goldenberg, MD ’89, and Maureen Whelihan, MD ’93.

Over 30 guests, including 16 MCOM alumni attended the reception at West Palm Beach Sailfish Marina Resort.  Alumni had the opportunity to meet and hear from Charles Lockwood, MD, MHCM, Senior Vice President of USF Health and Dean of USF Health MCOM and Steven Specter, PhD, Associate Dean of Alumni Relations & Advancement.

The evening was highlighted by Dr. Lockwood describing his vision for MCOM including the development of a new medical school and Heart Institute building which is currently in the design phases and expected to open in downtown Tampa in academic year 2019-2020.  In addition, Valerie Riddle, MD ’89, Chair of the MCOM Alumni Society, informed those assembled about programs and activities that have been taking place over the past 2 years to strengthen our alumni society.

The alumni were very enthusiastic about this opportunity to get together with fellow alumni, meet Dean Lockwood, and learn about current happenings at their alma mater.  Alumni expressed a strong sentiment to make the event an annual affair.
